What You Should Be Watching: "American Horror Story: Coven"

via FX
Let me start this post off by saying I've never been so excited for a show to begin. I've been a fan of  "American Horror Story" since the first season, my admiration sort of dipped during the last season (too many plot lines for my liking) however I just know this season will blow the other two out of the water. Since the first preview I haven't been able to get this song out of my head; give it a listen, it'll get you in the right frame of mind:

Why do I think its going to be so great?

The Plot:

Well first and foremost, its about WITCHES! I've been waiting for one of these since "The Craft" and unfortunately "Charmed" wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Season 3 of "American Horror Story" just has to deliver.

At the crux of the plot lies the Salem Witch Trials and these are the stories of those who missed being burned over 300 years ago. In New Orleans lives a school started to protect the young witches operated by the Supreme, Fiona (Jessica Lange) who is also the protector of the coven and their secrets and Fiona's daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) teaches at the school. The show apparently touches upon the topics of witch hunts, minorities, slavery, witchcraft, and voodoo. The show is set both in present day as well as the 1830s.

The Cast:

American Horror Story Queen Jessica Lange is back because no one does creepy quite like she does. Other returning characters include Taissa Farmiga (Violet from the first season), Sarah Paulson (Lana Winters from the second season), and the ever so charming Evan Peters (Tate from the first season and Kit in the second), and many more like Lily Rabe, Denis O'Hare, and Frances Conroy. Newbies include Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates.

In just the few previews it appears the cast can in fact bring these characters to life and make it one heck of a season to watch.

The Fashion:

They all look like little Saint Laurent dolls stomping through the streets of New Orleans and hanging on the walls in the preview shots. Get ready for the pilgrim/witch look to be out in full force this fall season. If you don't remember the Saint Laurent runway show I'm referring to see: here

The Good, The Wicked, The Creepy:

No stranger to reviving real characters in history, this season brings to life a Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) who was a real-life socialite and serial killer in the 1800s who was said to kill and torture her slaves in Louisiana. The promo video below, entitled "Mythology" suggests her purposes lied in recreating mythical figures and probably involved a heavy belief in witchcraft and voodoo in order to perform such a transformation.
